Options after the medical preparatory course

Korean students who arrived to the medical preparatory course of Pécs have been informed about the following future opportunities available to them.

Studies from which you can choose

After the preparatory course the students can choose from general medicine, dentistry and pharmaceutics studies. Education in each of these three programs takes place at the Faculty of General Medicine. „The University of Pécs is the only educational institution in the country which has no independent Faculty of Dentistry. However, there is a separate dentistry program, which is organised independently from other programs." - as we have learned from Dr. Ákos Nagy, Head of the Department of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Nagy has also told us that this is the first year in which students graduate in the English language program, and this will also be the case next year in the German language program.

Get into the Medical School of Pécs

Dr. Ferenc Gallyas from the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Chemistry has informed students that the Faculty of General Medicine in Pécs has a 3.5-fold over application. „About 700 students from all around the world submit their applications to this Faculty, but we don't have any restrictions, we can take 20, 40 or 70 Koreans!" - he added. On the other hand, he also announced the good news that participants of the preparatory course have no obligation to come to this Faculty in Pécs. Hopefully, students will be well prepared and will have a choice to go to any Hungarian university they prefer. This means that they can choose from 4 medical faculties in Hungary: apart from the one in Pécs, they can go to Budapest, Szeged or Debrecen. „Actually, I suggest that you try more than one, because if you are accepted by all of these universities, you can decide where to go, this is the best option!" - Dr. Gallyas, who is also Secretary of the English Program Committee of the Medical School of Pécs, has recommended.

Basic information about the entrance examination

Korean students have been briefly informed about the medical preparatory course, and then about the entrance examination at the Medical School of Pécs. Subjects of the examination are Biology, Chemistry and English language. There is a written test comprising 20 questions in Biology, 20 questions in Chemistry and 60 in English. 40 of these 60 questions are basic level English: they mostly assess English grammar, sentence composition, etc. 20 questions are based on medical texts. After reading the medical text, there are some questions to check if the candidate understood it or not. After the written part, there is an oral examination. Dr. Gallyas has called students' attention to the fact that „The entrance examination can be repeated! It's an important issue."

As a final advice, he also added that the first two years of university studies are very hard. However, student life in Pécs is not boring, they have time for relaxation and getting connected with other people as well.
