Learning and Entertainment at the Same Time

There are a number of ways to spend the summer holidays: a useful solution can be to learn about another culture by also learning its language at the same time. Summer courses and universities offered for non-native learners of Hungarian combine opportunities to participate in lectures introducing Hungarian culture with recreational programs that comprise experiences giving an insight into life in the country, all of these complementing several weeks of language learning. We have compiled a brief selection from this wide offering.

The University of Debrecen, the institution with the longest history of summer courses in Hungarian language, will launch courses in Sopron and Budapest as well as Debrecen this year. A new element in their provision is the summer camp offered for children of ages 12-17.

Sonder-ungarischkurs der sommeruniversität Debrecen in Sopron: a two-week intensive language course, with instruction in 5 hours a day in groups of 4-8 for speakers of German.

Intensive Summer Course in Hungarian Language and Culture in Debrecen: four- and two-week intensive course with 6 hours of instruction daily, in groups of maximum 12 persons; lectures in Hungarian Studies and discussions of current topics, as well as further cultural programs and opportunities for excursions.
Dates: 19 July - 15 August 2009 (120 lessons), 24 ECTS credits,
19 July - 1 August 2009 (60 lessons), 12 ECTS credits
Deadline for application: 15 June, 2009, but late applicants are also accepted

Hungarian Language and Culture Summer Youth Camp in Debrecen: 40-hour language instruction for young people of ages 12 to 17, complemented by cultural and sports opportunities.
Dates: 19 July - 1 August 2009, 40 class hours, for young people between 12 and 17 years of age.
