University of Pécs degree programme in Germany
01.03.2011.The Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pécs is proud to start a degree programme in the Autumn semester of 2011, where 70-80 students can enter BSc in Nursing and Patient Care in Frankfurt clinics.
József Betlehem, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences informed the press that the Hungarian Higher Education Accreditation Committee agreed to the start of the BSc in Nursing and Patient Care degree programme in Frankfurt, Germany. Professors and assistant professors of the University of Pécs who speak German fluently greatly contribute to the very high level of education. They will teach in Germany up to 40 % of the contact hours of the foreign BSc programme. "Hungarian professors will teach basic theoretical subjects, practice and the infrastructure will be covered by clinics in Frankfurt. Examinations will be supervised by professors of the University of Pécs, the degree and diploma is also given by the University of Pécs" - said the dean.
József Betlehem pointed out that the BSc in Nursing degree programme was started in 2003 partly because of the suggestion of the Frankfurt partners, since similar programmes in Germany are different concerning the curricula. Graduates in Nursing at the University of Pécs receive a diploma that is widely acknowledged in the European Union. During their education they acquire high level theoretical and practical knowledge, therefore they are able to perform interventions that demand special professional knowledge that do not necessarily belong to the scope of German nurses' duties.
"This German invitation is based on good contacts, trust and joint research activities. At the same time it is the acknowledgement of the quality of education at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pécs and the high level knowledge of its graduates" - accentuated the dean. The professional knowledge of Pécs graduates is also widely approved in Germany: many Hungarian health care workers are employed by Frankfurt clinics - said the dean. József Betlehem is of the opinion that the German-Hungarian education centre in Frankfurt proves that not only well-educated professional Hungarian workforce but also Hungarian education is also welcome abroad.
The dean added that the medical and business and economics degree programmes of the University of Pécs could also be started similarly to the BSc in Nursing abroad, because the teaching material and well-trained professors are also here. However, these programmes will not be started yet. "The prestige and the existential background of doctors and economists is stronger, their expected average income will also be higher than that of students of the Faculty of Health Sciences. " József Betlehem expressed his thoughts that while the Medical and Business degree programme locks students from abroad to Hungary, studying at a health care degree programme in Hungary is less popular.
